We’re excited to share that Lantern Residences, LLC is growing! In response to rising need and community demand, we will add 18–22 new beds in our Summerville, South Carolina facility. This expansion strengthens our capacity to provide transitional housing, supportive services, and recovery housing to more individuals and families in our region.

Why Expand Now?

Summerville and Dorchester County are among the fastest-growing parts of the Lowcountry, with new housing developments, population growth, and increased demand for social services. https://www.live5news.com

As our community grows, so do the challenges many face — homelessness, substance use disorders, reentry after incarceration, and lack of stable housing options. Lantern Residences has long believed in meeting people where they are and providing a safe, structured, and supportive environment for recovery and re-entry. Expanding our bed count allows us to:

  • Serve more individuals in need
  • Decrease waitlists for admission
  • Build community capacity across social service networks
  • Offer continuity and stability during vulnerable transitions

What This Expansion Will Look Like

  • Number of beds: 18 to 22 new units (bringing total capacity even higher)
  • Types of clients: Those in transitional living, recovery support, reentry programs, or with housing stability needs
  • Supportive services: Case management, life skills training, peer support, linkage to behavioral health or medical care, vocational or educational referrals
  • Facilities & staffing: We will scale up staff, security, utilities, and program infrastructure to match increased volume without compromising quality

Impact on the Community

This expansion is more than just adding beds — it’s about deepening our impact:

  1. Relief for service providers & partners
Local nonprofits, shelters, and agencies often face bed shortages. By creating more residential slots, we help reduce pressure on the system as a whole.
  2. Better outcomes for residents
More people will have access to stable housing during critical transitional periods, which correlates to lower relapse rates, better health outcomes, and greater social reintegration.
  3. Stronger referral network
With greater capacity, Lantern can accept more referrals from allied nonprofits, treatment providers, correctional agencies, and healthcare systems — making partnership more effective.
  4. Greater visibility & credibility
As we expand, Lantern further cements its role as a regionally trusted provider of high-integrity, effective recovery and transition housing.

What Comes Next

Over the coming months:

  • We’ll complete permitting, construction, or renovation (depending on facility updates)
  • Hire and train qualified staff
  • Establish operating protocols to maintain safety, quality, and therapeutic environment
  • Engage referral partners and community stakeholders
  • Officially open the additional beds and begin intake

We will provide regular updates on progress, including interior photos, staffing news, and resident success stories once the expansion is live.
